Before we send our final leaflet designs to BrandFuel to forward onto the client, we want to ensure we are designing along the right route, getting as much feedback as possible as we go along.
After discussing ideas and concepts derived from the research we'd done and the feedback that had been given from the other designs so far, Josh and I spent some time putting together some rough concepts and ideas as PDF's to send to BrandFuel. This would give us a chance to see which ideas would work best for the client and what would be the best design style that we could apply to the final designs, instead of wasting time and launching straight into the end result.
We thought it would be a good idea to show where our ideas and inspiration came from, so we included the key aspects and visuals from our research to show the route we want to go down. Seeing as the original leaflet design looks dated and makes the product look un-exciting, our key visual research was more related to the cooler aspects of outdoor sports/activities, creating a hype and excitement around the product and the possibilites and opportunities it gives for wheelchair users.
We put together a series of rough layout ideas using the photos supplied to communicate a range of different ideas so that when go into the final design, we know which style is the most preferred/appropriate, experimenting with fonts, shapes and colours also.
We also included some graphics and geometric shapes inspired from some of our visual research, as a way of updating the design style for the product and keeping it modern and fresh as well as linking it to design of the trike itself.
We created some rough mock-ups of how these styles and ideas would look in context, when featured on the trifold leaflet, trying out different variations of the logo placement, photo shapes and positioning and how the page could be divided up.
The overall content and files provided by the client such as the photos, colours and logo don't create or communicate much excitement around the product and so to emphasise the attributes of the Mountain Trike, we experimented with adding relevant shapes, patterns and graphics (inspired by our visual research) to complement the rest of the content supplied.
As there was quite a large selection of different photos supplied by the client, it was important that we narrowed it down to a select few that we think would work the best when featured on the leaflet design, bearing in mind the feedback from the previous BrandFuel designs and giving a range of different styles of image.

I’ve reviewed with David; here is our feedback:
- Good choice of reference material
- Page 3 – we like the treatment of font on ‘take yourself further’, the grittiness suits
- Page 4/8 – trace of tyre is a good graphical element and will work as a divider between images; try to combine to something in between both graphics
- We really love the sun/wheel graphic on page six
- Nice flow of elements on page 7 but try not to use one graphical element (circles in this case) too much, there needs to be a balance
- On page 7 also like the treatment of ‘Mountain trike’ in top right corner
- Page 10 – we really like the graph-like graphic on the left/middle
- All colour palettes work well, also good choice of fonts
What doesn’t work:
- Page 7 bottom left – a brochure like this will sit in a brochure holder, so only the top part will be visible – ‘Take yourself further’ could mean anything. Branding MUST be on top as in design in top right corner
- Page 9 – too busy, stripy circles don’t work
- Page 10 right side design are too blocky and static
